SAGO NETWORK

The SAGO team balance their design-build work in Australia with a long-standing commitment to collaborate with the communities of Papua New Guinea, our nearest Pacific neighbour, to address community development challenges that improve health.

SAGO Network is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the ACNC that works with communities to achieve clean water, safe toilets and improved hygiene practices throughout rural and remote parts of PNG. The work is managed and run by community development professionals and the SAGO team in Sydney contributes its planning, design and construction services on a brobono basis for impact.

The SAGO Dry Toilet provides a long lasting, durable toilet system to safely treat waste without the need for water. Thanks to loyal funders and supporters, the SAGO Dry Toilet is now a quality sanitation option for communities to consider.

Sago dry toilet

The SAGO Dry Toilet has been prototyped and developed by SAGO Network over the past 10 years with the aim to provide a permanent, waterless and safe sanitation option for communities who live in a high water table environment. In these areas, pit toilets are often unsafe, have a very short lifespan and are a significant effort to continually construct.

Aerial Health patrol

Since 2019, SAGO Network has partnered with local organisations in PNG to provide basic healthcare services to the remote areas of Western Province. SAGO Network facilitates training with remote communities to encourage self-led change toward improved water, sanitation and hygiene practices.

The community development team s distribute menstrual hygiene kits to girls in schools, provide clean water resources to remote communities and undertake village planning programs.

Community projects

SAGO Network community projects place rural communities at the centre of the process whilst providing resources to enable communities to improve their own water and sanitation outcomes. An educational process of self-led change ultimately leads to the improvement of facilities for remote schools and rural families alike.
