Dappled Delight

A mid-century home in need of a considered new chapter. Architect Miriam Green of AtelierM saw past the dated fabric to the qualities worth saving — a north aspect that had never been fully claimed and a run of parkland views the original plan only half addressed.

The response sharpens what was already good. A new room extends the footprint, while every bedroom and living space is rejuvenated to draw the northern light deeper into the plan. At the centre of the move is a feature screen in glass and steel, angled to filter sun across the living spaces through the day.

Rather than a hard wall, the screen becomes a soft edge — separating zones without closing them off, so the dappled pattern of light travels with you from room to room.

The result is a home that reads as both era-true and entirely current: mid-century bones, given room to breathe and bathed in a soft dappled light.

Light, filtered and framed — a house rebuilt around its best view.
