Coloured Sky

Clients Bianca and Peter had a vision to expand this Leichhardt house but knew that they would need to approach it incrementally. The SAGO team helped them create a future-proofed approach to the project that stacked up financially and structurally. The first stage of the project was a single-story addition that was designed to accommodate a future second storey addition with minimal interruption to the ground floor.

The existing house had lots of character but needed well-placed injections of daylight to be a light-filled contemporary home. SAGO proposed a series of expressive light shafts augmented with bursts of colour which added life and playfulness to this home.

The addition is proposed as a contrast to the existing house: the structure is clearly expressed using visible steel portals and ceiling rafters. The material palette includes recycled and painted brick, a utilitarian concrete slab and earthy timber joinery. The extension improves the connection with the garden, allowing children to play in the garden while parents look on from the house.
